In February we're going to head to the Hermatige for a walk through the woods and up Blackford hill. This is always a lovely walk and should give use views of the Castle, Arthur's Seat, the Pentlands, the Braids, the Firth of Forth and the Kingdom of Fife. We'll end up back at the The Lodge Coffee House where we could stop for a tea and post walk bite to eat if anyone fancies.

The route will include some steep, rocky and muddy sections so it won't be suitable for buggies. Slings and baby carriers will be fine.

Transport: There is some free on street parking near the start but it does get quite busy. Plenty of buses up Greenbank Terrace/Comiston Road - numbers 5, 11, 15 & 16.

Dogs: child-friendly dogs are generally welcome if you can keep them under control but do please post a comment below to check as sometimes we have children who are very nervous about dogs and their needs always take priority. There a lot of dogs in the park but we've rarely had any problems.

Torphichen to Linlithgow via the hillfort on Bowden Hill. Some trackless pasture. Two stiles to cross. We rendezvous at the West Port car park at 1015 with boots on, but we will need to be at the bus stop across the road from the Black Bitch by 1025, to get the 31 bus to Torphichen. Leader will be at the West Port rendezvous, but other Ramblers who live near a different bus stop of the 31 bus can get on elsewhere, without phoning me beforehand. E.g. the 31 bus leaves the Burghmuir Court bus stop in Springfield at 1021. Make sure to board the 31 bus headed Bathgate, not Livingston. The 31 bus does not give change so, if you do not have a Travel Card, you will need the correct fare, which is £1.40 from Black Bitch to Torphichen, or the same fare from Springfield.  (This walk has been rescheduled from 24th April)  (This walk has been rescheduled from 24th April)
