"I spent seven years in Edinburgh, and a walk along the Water of Leith into the city centre was one of my favourite weekend walks, because I loved how you could walk right through the city without worrying about traffic. And I really loved how it was so green! This Sunday walk will retrace those steps along the Water of Leith walkway as it snakes its way unseen through the Edinburgh suburbs, past Murrayfield Stadium and Dean Village, before leaving the walkway to stroll through the famous Botanic Gardens. From there we’ll follow the route of a historic railway track and tunnel towards the city centre, before making our way to the finish atop Calton Hill, where we can take in one of the finest city views in Europe."

Catch the 101 stagecoach bus at Morningside clock at 13:42 . We will leave sharp as soon as the bus arrives in Carlops. So no later than 2:10pm for those coming by cars.

Please come dressed for cold, windy, wet weather so hats, gloves, scarves, waterproof and warm jackets and stout walking shoes. We will be in some exposed areas for a short time. Although hopefully the day will be benign. ??
A hot flask of something warming and a snack for a brief stop at the boating hut before our descent is always a nice plan.

Our walk takes us a circular route up into the hills skirting round a fairly steep descent and back round to the inn at Carlops where we can be ready to take the 16:15pm bus or 17:19 back to Morningside.
The later bus leaves at 18:39pm arriving Morningside 19:04pm for those wishing to dally over a hot soup in the Inn.
